Apple Battery Recall (Part 3)

Okay I am facing an issue! I am flying out to San Francisco in 16 days (Keep count on the side!) and Apple still hasn’t sent my my new battery for my Powerbook. I haven’t heard that my airline has banned Apple laptops but do I really want to push it? I do not want to be the one butt-hole that ruins it for all of us so I will not take my laptop onboard with me if this is the case. The “4-6 week” wait will end a day or so after I leave. I hope that Apple gets my battery here soon so I can continue using my laptop while on the plane.

Whether or not I need my laptop on the plane is debatable: I have Playstation Portable I could take, but wait! It has a Sony battery! As far as I know it isn’t recalled but do we really trust Sony after everything thats happened to them in the past year?

It’s Showtime!

iPod Nano 2 - Back To The Mini

2006 iPod FamilyIt’s Tuesday! You know what today is right? The day Apple announced new products. If you’re like me you had three monitors lined up around you with live coverage from MacRumors, iLounge, and Engadget and then a laptop constantly refreshing Apple’s website to see if they have put the products on their website yet. Now I could talk about the iTunes Movie Store and Game Store but I think that you can understand what those are (Pst! Hack the gaming capabilities to run home-brew!) so I will jump into the products.iPod Updates
Of corse, as with every Apple product I get the first update to it is a brighter screen, as it was when I bought the Powerbook, and last week with my iMac. So there’s a brighter screen and better battery in the iPods now, and also it can be bought in an 80GB version too.

iPod Nano Updates
This is awesome. As you can see with the header-image Apple has taken their nano back to the iPod Mini style! You complained about scratches, Apple listened! Sort of.. In the new iPod Nanos they are made of metal and come in colors. The 2GB comes in Silver, 4GB comes in Silver, Green, Blue, and Pink, and 8GB comes in Black. Odd choice to separate the colors though, since their all the same size physically I would love to see a modder take the green case and shove the 8GB insides inside it. Someone call MAKE Magazine.

iPod Shuffle - The Clip-le Edition
Whoa, the shuffle is now a little paper clip. The size is awesome for 1GB though. I’m curious of how it connects because from what I can see there is no dock-connector or USB plug on it. It does look as though it uses the earphone jack to charge but I am not sure. I am surprised to see it have a grey case and no option of color like with the iPod nano.

Now excuse me while I go drool.

Building My First Computer

My ComputerI’ve been a computer geek forever now but I have never built a computer. I probably would have by now if I didn’t switch to Macintosh over a year ago though. I went to NewEgg and purchased my parts: a AMD 64 Athlon 3400+, Gigabyte Micro-ATX Motherboard, and a stick of 512MB of RAM. I was hoping the heatsink and thermal compound came with it, but it didn’t. I ordered a heatsink with rush delivery! I also didn’t consider the power supply, being almost six years old, needed to be upgraded. For that I ran down to my local computer shop! Paid the high price, but I got it that day. Now my problem is that RAM runs in pairs and I only bought one stick of RAM. The second piece comes in tomorrow. I cannot wait! Right now I can’t get Windows or Linux to boot without error, I’ll let you know once I get my RAM issue straightened out.

New ComputerUpdate: I got another stick of the same RAM and the computer works great! I’m running Windows Vista 64bit and Ubuntu Linux 64bit and I’m thinking of putting Ubuntu 32bit so I can run some 32bit applications that will not seem to run.

Manicotti For Geeks

Yesterday I made Manicotti thanks to help from my good friends over at Control Alt Chicken! It took what seemed like eternity for it to cook but when it came out, it was awesome. I took some pictures so check them out and then go make it for yourself!
It’s easy, don’t sweat it.

If you don’t know what Control Alt Chicken is, it is a cooking show for geeks and nerds where they make it easy to cook and have fun along the way. Their part of the Revision3 network.
