Flickr Adds Geo-Tags

Flickr's Geo-TaggingPeople have been ripping on Flickr for a while now for not having geo-tagging. Well now they do! Geo-tagging allows people to view and search for photos based on where they were took. I just did most of my Flickr-Photos with this and quite frankly I think it would be easier to type where you took it then to use Flickr’s Yahoo! Maps with city-search only.

Apple Battery Recall (Update)

We’ll I tried again Friday and Apple said I qualified for a replacement! They also said that my zip-code wasn’t my zip-code and gave me a list of suggestions that could possibly be what I was looking for. The list was about 8 different near-by locations, including mine, that all have the same zip-code. Wow. After that happened I called Apple and waited on the phone for 1 hour before hanging up because I was still on hold. I tried again around three before I had to leave for the night and it finally went through! I was excited until I received the e-mail saying it would take 4-6 weeks for it to get here! I understand 1.8 million batteries is a lot to replace but that still isn’t cool.

Dear Apple Customer,

Apple Battery Recall

My Powerbook BatteryOkay this is getting out of hand! Two weeks ago I heard Apple’s Powerbooks batteries were being recalled, it wasn’t mine. A week ago my dad’s Dell battery was recalled, luckly we have a stable battery. Today Apple recalled 1.8 million batteries, and my Powebook was one of them. I bought my Powerbook a year ago, which is in the time zone, and its a Powerbook G4, which is the model computer and the battery is within the serial-number range. I called Apple and they said don’t try to talk to us and that they were packed full and that it would be 2-3 hours before they got to me, call back tomorrow. Before I got off the phone I asked “If my battery blows up before it’s replaced will I get a new laptop?” and they said yes.

My Battery (Back)
Since they promised to replace my laptop when the battery blows up I am currently writing this on it and will be running this thing to its max until it blows up in hope of getting a new MacBook. (not really — I love my 12″ PowerBook!)

San Francisco - Booked!

This October I’m heading out of this small town I live in, to the great city of San Francisco! The plans have been made and reservations reserved! The only thing that could posibly stand in my way is the carry-on lugage restrictions. Are they going to ban iPods and laptops? Am I going to be strip-searched? Come on, it’s a four-hour flight from Nashville to San Francisco!

Fetishes v2.0

Fetishes I Wish I Had v2It is time for a revolution! Or maybe just a new version of Fetishes I Wish I Had.com! If you don’t know Fetishes I Wish I Had is a social fetishing website where users submit fetishes and can watch the popularity grow and see the top popular fetishes.

When I started the site I wanted to make sure everything stayed secret so no one knew who fetished what, and I still stand by that policy. We do not allow user created accounts and we make it easy for anyone to fetish anything they want. In the new version we took out more images and replaced it with CSS and saved a lot of disk space by using PHP to code the whole thing now. In this version it is very easy to navigate with your cell phone and we merged searching fetishes with submitting fetishes. Check it out and give me your suggestions!

Broken Boy Soldiers

Broken Boy SoldiersThe debut album, Broken Boy Soldiers, from Jack White, of The White Stripes, and his friends: Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler. Their from Nashville, TN which is about three hours from here, I like that.

If your a fan of The White Stripes you will like The Raconteurs because its got that same Jack White-touch. You can hear some full songs at their website. While you’re there you should watch their videos, one features Paul Reubens, aka: Pee-Wee Herman.

Jack White also notes that he has not killed off The White Stripes and has already started to write songs for their new album. [more]

Thanks to my friend Steven for recommending this band.

No Service from ISP

I need a new internet service provider. My current one charges 30$ a line, we have two for two different locations that are almost a mile apart. I get speeds of 700 kilobits per second at the location further away from my provider and 400 kilobits per second two buildings away from them. As if that wasn’t bad enough their service shuts down from 1:00 AM to 1:30 AM and multiple random times through out the day.

I’ve checked all over the internet and if you guys know where I can get faster internet to my really small town locations I’d sell my soul!

UPDATE: While publishing this article the internet shorted out twice! Oh the irony!

Picasa Web Albums

My Dogs

Aug 11, 2006 - 32 Photos

I’ve currently been playing with Picasa Web Albums, Google’s Flickr competitor. So far it has been great because there is no bandwidth limitation and you can have as many albums as you want. The only flaw with it is that you only get 250 megabytes which is bull compared to Gmail, but still pretty good for free. Also you can pay $25 for 6 gigabytes. Still pretty low but it’s nice. You can add friends to keep track of like in Flickr. It also works with the Mac with their integrated iPhoto pluggin. You can publish from your Picasa web albums but not download or “photo cast” which is a downer, but hey their in beta — or not even beta since the site says “test”.

Conference On!

WWDCLately there has been so many conferences going on: Comicon, Defcon, and WWDC. If you don’t know what those conferences are, Comicon is a comic convention in San Diego, Defcon is a hackers convention in Las Vegas, and WWDC is the Apple World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

If you like the sound of those places and wish you could go you can from your own home! I’ve been watching from Flickr. I type in the name of the conference in the search box, search by tags, and click the ‘most recent’. I’ve been doing this and it looks like there having fun while I’m saving money!

Mac OS X Leopard

Mac OS LeopardToday Apple announced their next-generation operating system, Leopard. It has enhanced iChat, Mail, Accessibility, Dashboard, and Spotlight. They announced some new things, but the rest is ‘Top Secret’. So lets jump in on my views on the new features!

Time MachineTime Machine
Everyone expected Google to build a time machine, but Apple beat them to it! Except this time machine is just for back-up. It is a very graphical way to show the progression over time of files and to revert back to it by showing the application aging back and forth. I want to know if this has the simpler features, but besides that is is great. I also hope you can back up to your iPod. I know I would without all the history. I also want to know if it does live back-uping.

SpacesSpaces
It’s a bird! It’s a plain! No! It’s Apple attacking the software developers! Introducing Spaces! Spaces is a virtual desktop application that comes in the new Mac OS X.

This application better have some nice features to justify Apple trying to put down another application for their own system. Don’t get me wrong! I think this is a nice application, but it needs something to separate it from the other applications out there. I do not know what the key commands will be, but they should be simple for usability sake.

Dashboard Web ClipsDashboard Web Clips
I know, this shouldn’t be my favorite, besides iChat’s new webcam features, but it is. This is a dashboard widget that lets you clip any section of a web page you want and put it in the dashboard! This is awesome because this will help me check for updates and get straight to the page of a page I want.

Overall the upgrade seems like Mac OS X Tiger + MS Power Toys. They need some real changes for an operating system upgrade and that is what I think you will see when Apple unviels their “Top Secret” features. I do like these new features but paying $120 just for those features isn’t worth it. I bet Apple has some big secrets though!
